Nate Brannen moved to Tallahassee in November 2009 because his wife Theresa received a promotion with PUMA to become the running specialty sales rep for the Southeast. He had previously been in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he ran cross country and track at the University of Michigan from 2001-2005. Nate was born in Cambridge, Ontario Canada and was 1 of only 7 athletes in North America to break the 4 minute mile barrier while in high school. Ironically, Nate accomplished this feat in 2001, 8 years after Kevin Sullivan also broke the 4 minute barrier in high school. Nate attended the University of Michigan where he went on to set multiple NCAA records in the indoor 1 Mile, Distance Medley Relay and the 4x1mile Relay. He was a 4 time NCAA Champion and 11 time NCAA All American in Cross Country and Track and Field. Nate was also a 6 time Big Ten Champion.

Kevin moved to Tallahassee in 2007 when his wife Karen Harvey accepted the women's cross-country and track and field coaching position at Florida State University. Kevin spent the previous 12 years as a full-time professional track and field athlete and has been looking for his transition from the professional running circuit into the business world. A 1998 graduate of Michigan with a degree in civil engineering, Kevin Sullivan is one of the best middle-distance runners in NCAA and Canadian history, after starting early with a 3:59.29 mile in high school. In a brilliant collegiate career, he was just the third runner in Big Ten history to win four consecutive cross-country titles, and won NCAA titles in the indoor mile, Distance Medley Relay and 1500m.
Nate and Kevin realized they both had the same interest in owning a business and the need for a specialty running store in Tallahassee, Capital City Runners was born.
